KUALA LUMPUR:
Almost two-thirds of suspects arrested over house burglaries during the movement control order period were those without jobs, police said.

Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan said a total of 5,518 individuals were arrested during the MCO period between March 18 and June 27, and of the number, 3,572 people were unemployed.

“We hope that everyone can work together to stop crime in our community.

“Always lock your house even when you are at home, and watch out for suspicious individuals around the neighbourhood,” he said in a statement today. “Immediately call the police for assistance if they appear before your door in a suspicious manner.

Jalil said police recorded 16,452 house break-in cases in the past three months of the MCO, compared to 20,875 cases reported during last year’s MCO from March to May.

He attributed the drop in house break-in cases to the police’s monitoring activities.

“Members of the public who have information on house break-in cases, should step forward and give us information to curb the crime,” Jalil added.
