KOTA KINABALU:
The Sabah state government has allowed three shopping centres to continue operations, although they are listed in the federal government’s HIDE system as potential Covid-19 hotspots.

A check on the system showed the three shopping complexes in Sabah as Centre Point Shopping Mall, Suria Shopping Mall and Kompleks Karamunsing, all located in Kota Kinabalu.

State housing and local government minister Masidi Manjun, spokesman for the disaster management committee, said strict control would be carried out at the malls to ensure visitors and the centres complied with the health and movement protocols.

“We have ordered Rela and DBKK (Kota Kinabalu City Council) personnel to check customers at the entrance and to control the crowd. We will only close and sanitise the shopping centres if there were cases of Covid-19,” he told reporters in a chat message today.

Yesterday, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said premises listed in HIDE were identified as risky locations in the transmission of Covid-19 infection and would be ordered to close for three days immediately.
