Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob added that all bazaars under the HIDE system will be shut for three days with immediate effect.
HIDE refers to the Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE). A HIDE list released today indicated several Ramadan bazaars as potential hotspot areas.
Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on May 13.
Ismail said the government would continue to implement the HIDE system whereby a locality could be placed under MCO, depending on the number of cases.
“Premises listed under the HIDE system will be under lockdown immediately for three days,” he said in a statement.
Enforcement of SOPs in these areas will be carried out by the police, army and the local councils, he added. He said the government had asked police to increase enforcement at HIDE areas.
The ban on interstate travel remains in force until June 6. Those who wish to travel would need police permission to do so.
Other activities not allowed are social activities, education and economic activities that could attract public gatherings.
“However, this decision will be reviewed in two weeks,” he said.
As for sports and recreational activities, he said sports activities in open areas are allowed, with 1.5m physical distancing.
On SOPs, Ismail said the authorities will hold a meeting to consider tightening the rules if Covid-19 infections continue to surge. “This is because the cases are on the rise and there are new Covid-19 variants” he added.
Ismail added that one person was arrested and 331 people were issued compound fines yesterday for MCO-related offences.
Most of the offences were for participating in activities which made physical distancing difficult (263); failing to register personal details before entering a building (151); not wearing face masks (80); participating in activities at nightclubs and pubs (28); not observing physical distancing (25), and others (48).
The authorities also detained 10 undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign and seized a vehicle and a boat.
On mandatory quarantine, Ismail said 198,632 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 since July 24 and were placed under quarantine.
Of that number, 7,490 were taken to hospital for treatment.
