Najib fined RM3,000 over SOP breach at chicken rice shop

The manager of the shop was compounded RM10,000.

Najib Razak has admitted failing to take his temperature and registering himself before entering the premises.
PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak has been fined a total of RM3,000 for breaching Covid-19 SOPs before going into a chicken rice shop in Kuala Lumpur two months ago.

He was fined RM1,500 each for the two offences, namely failing to take his temperature and registering himself manually or via MySejahtera before entering the premises.

Meanwhile, the shop’s manager Yeok Wei Hao was fined RM10,000 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for failing to instruct Najib to register himself.

Previously, Najib had admitted that he was at fault and would pay the fine.

“All those involved will be compounded soon. The total amount of the compounds is RM13,000. We advise the general public to continue complying with the SOPs,” said Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah in a statement today.

In a video that went viral in March, the former prime minister could be seen being ushered to his seat immediately after he arrived at the popular Chee Meng Hainanese chicken rice shop.

While his officers had “checked-in”, Najib had said he did not, although it was unintentional.

“Never mind. I told the authorities to issue me a fine for my mistake and I will pay the fine voluntarily,” he said in a Facebook post, adding he would do so within seven days to get the “early-bird discount” rate of RM750.

In a Facebook post today, Najib again said he would pay the compounds.

However, he added: “I and other regular people are investigated and fined. If government ministers breach the SOPs, I don’t know.”
