PETALING JAYA:
A 26-year-old soldier has been fined RM5,500 by the Kota Kinabalu magistrates’ court for vaping while on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah in August.

Aliy Joni was slapped with the fine after pleading guilty to committing the offence at around 9.05am on Aug 21, Sabah Media reported.

The charge was framed under Rule 100(1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016, which is punishable by a maximum RM25,000 fine, a jail term of up to one year, or both upon conviction.

According to the case facts, Aliy was openly vaping in the aircraft and had been reprimanded by a cabin crew member. He, however, ignored her and continued vaping.

As soon as the plane landed at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport at around 9.25am, crew members detained him and hauled him to the airport’s police station.

After a report was filed, he was detained by the cops.
