“This compound is a lesson to use permits for interstate travel only for purposes agreed to by the authorities.
“It is also a reminder for me and everyone involved at my wedding to always remember the importance of SOPs,” she told Harian Metro.
The investigation was opened by authorities after images from her wedding celebration on March 27 and her honeymoon in Langkawi, Kedah went viral, clearly showing the breach of Covid-19 SOPs.
Today, Neelofa was fined RM20,000, her husband was fined RM10,000, and 20 members of their family were fined RM1,500 each for failing to ensure social distancing of over 1m during the ceremony.
Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the compounds were related to two separate offences, and were the result of investigations under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
According to Zainal, as the organiser of her wedding, Neelofa failed to comply with the health director-general’s instructions on compliance with the SOPs governing social gatherings.
He said the couple also violated regulations relating to the permission given for interstate travel, as their activities fell outside the scope of what was approved by the police.
