Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said they comprise 10 police officers and personnel, as well as an assistant commissioner and an officer from MACC.
They were detained during the second phase of Op Pelican 3.0, conducted in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan from April 21 to April 27.
Ayob Khan said the 10 police officers comprised two from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS), four from the Selangor police headquarters including a station chief in the Ampang Jaya district, two from the Sentul district headquarters, and one each from the Negeri Sembilan headquarters and Melaka Tengah district headquarters.
The two MACC suspects are from the headquarters in Putrajaya.
“Investigations are being conducted under Section 130V to 130ZB of the Penal Code for organised crime and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 or Sosma.
“All have been detained for 28 days under Sosma. Phase 2 of Op Pelican 3.0 ends today and any further arrests would be under phase 3,” he said.
Recently, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said a total of 34 uniformed personnel and members of enforcement agencies were suspected of being in cahoots with “Geng Nicky”, a gang linked to the businessman.
Ayob Khan confirmed that he had arrested his own officers in addition to using Interpol’s international network to track down Liow and his assistant, Niu Zhe.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki also confirmed the arrest of his two officers and said the agency would cooperate with police in the investigation.
“I take this seriously and will not compromise in the matter,” he said, adding that he would hand over any other MACC officers if they were involved.
