He said the ruling coalition could fall anytime after the emergency ends in August.
“Every day, there is some new crisis affecting Perikatan Nasional. Umno can withdraw (from the government) any time.
“How stable is the government then?” he told reporters after attending the Lembah Pantai PKR annual general meeting at Signature Hotel here.
Umno, at its general assembly on March 27, said it may withdraw from the government in August if Parliament is dissolved by then.
Fahmi said that even though the split between PPBM and Umno is “their internal problem”, other parties could learn from it and avoid such fallouts.
“When they seized power (from Pakatan Harapan), they spoke a lot about sincerity but that is their biggest problem now.”
The Lembah Pantai MP said PKR would pay special attention to seats held by MPs who had betrayed the party and switched sides.
“We will place winnable candidates to strengthen the party.”
PKR won 48 parliamentary seats in the last general election in 2018, but following recent defections, it now has 35 seats. The party is led by Anwar Ibrahim.
Fahmi said Anwar was strengthening the party by visiting party branches, with new members such as television personalities Hans Isaac and Afdlin Shauki joining the party.
As for news reports about Sabah-based Warisan contesting seats in Peninsular Malaysia, Fahmi said they would discuss seat allocations among the PH family first.
Warisan is a PH-friendly party.
Former PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who had earlier given a speech at the event, was asked by the media to confirm speculation that she would be contesting the Permatang Pauh seat, currently held by her daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar.
However, the Pandan MP who won the seat in GE14, said she would leave the decision on fielding suitable candidates to the party.
Prior to GE14, the seat was held by Rafizi Ramli. It is not known if Rafizi plans to return to active politics again.
