Cops approved cycling event, says Zuraida

Housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin says she will let police complete their probe into the event, adding that all SOPs were complied with.

Zuraida Kamaruddin has criticised PKR president Anwar Ibrahim over his claim that four PKR MPs were offered money to quit and support PN.
PUCHONG:
Housing and local government minister Zuraida Kamaruddin has defended a cycling event some claimed had breached Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), saying it had been permitted by the police.

Noting that MUDA had lodged a police report over the event, she said she will let the authorities complete their investigations into the matter.

“All SOPs were complied with. We also obtained permission and approval from the police,” she said in a press conference after an event here today.

It was reported earlier today that the cops have begun an investigation into the “fun ride” programme last Saturday at Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur which Zuraida flagged off.

Zuraida had come under fire for the event, although the National Landscape Department later denied claims that the minister had breached Covid-19 rules during the cycling event.

Meanwhile, the PPBM Supreme Council member also hit out at PKR president Anwar Ibrahim over his claim that four more PKR MPs were offered money to quit the party and support Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Zuraida said Anwar’s claims came from a “desperate and directionless” leader who could not come to terms with the fact that MPs were deserting the party because they had lost faith in its leadership.

“Their belief in Anwar has faded, causing them to change direction and back the PN government,” she said, citing Anwar’s previous claims of having the majority support of MPs to become prime minister.

On Tuesday, Anwar said Padang Serai’s M Karupaiya, Sungai Siput’s S Kesavan, Putatan’s Awang Husaini and Miri’s Michael Teo were offered money to desert the party.

Sekijang MP Natrah Ismail, also from PKR, had earlier lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission claiming that she had been offered to switch sides.
