Sivasubramaniam, who defected from DAP became Gerakan’s sole assemblyman in June but did not inform the party of his decision to leave, although he has been a PPBM member since December.
Sivasubramaniam is known for his resignations. In 2008, he resigned from DAP after the general election when he was not made an exco member in the state government, which was won by Pakatan Rakyat then.
However, he retracted his letter the next day after meeting party leaders. He quit DAP again to become an independent when the Pakatan Harapan state government collapsed in March last year. He joined Gerakan in June.
State Gerakan chairman See Tean Seng said he was shocked over the matter, adding that the issue was now out of his hands.
“I only found out about this after reading media reports. I will leave it to the central leadership to decide the next course of action,” he said.
Sivasubramaniam and Tronoh MP Yong Choo Kiong, also a former DAP member, joined PPBM in December but the matter only became public two days ago.
Meanwhile, PPBM Perak secretary Zainol Fadzi Paharudin confirmed that the two assemblymen had joined the party in December.
He said Sivasubramaniam’s switch should not be made an issue because he had joined Gerakan before it became a Perikatan Nasional coalition partner.
“He joined us in December while Gerakan became a PN coalition member only in February,” he told FMT, adding that Sivasubramaniam had declared himself as an independent assemblyman when PN first took over the state government from Pakatan Harapan.
“Furthermore, he only joined us after the change in menteri besar recently,” he said.
