PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested one of two suspects whose brazen escape from arrest was captured in a viral video.

Petaling Jaya police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the suspect who was arrested is a 35-year-old man. Another suspect in his 40s, known only as “Bob Mah Sing” is on the run.

Nik Ezanee said the incident captured on video began at 12.45pm today when the occupants of a silver Proton Waja refused to cooperate when a Gombak police patrol wanted to have the car searched.

This sparked a chase from Kampung Desa Aman to Sierramas in Sungai Buloh, where the car got stuck between two other vehicles at a traffic light junction.

Two policemen ordered the suspects out of the car but they refused and proceeded to ram their car through the vehicles.

At one point, the suspects reversed their car into the patrol car, forcing one of the officers to fire several shots at the suspect’s tyres.

The suspects managed to flee the scene but did not get far because of punctured tyres. They abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Nik Ezanee said a substance believed to be heroin was found in the car.

He said PJ police arrested one suspect in a housing estate in Desa Aman around 1km where the car was abandoned. “A check on the suspect’s background revealed he had eight convictions for drugs.”
