It said the latest discovery at Dokong-1, in the shallow waters of Baram province, is part of the Block SK417 production sharing contract.
In a statement, Petronas said the finding of contaminant-free gas “revives the Baram shallow clastics play”.
“(It) also proves the presence of more sweet gas opportunities within the area,” it added.
On Feb 10, Petronas said it had discovered gas at the Lang Lebah-2 exploration appraisal well in the Block SK410B production sharing contract located in the central Luconia province, about 80km off Sarawak.
Petronas senior vice-president of Malaysia Petroleum Management Mohamed Firouz Asnan said the “remarkable discovery” was a testimony to Malaysia’s highly prolific basins and demonstrated the tremendous untapped exploration potential.
He said the Lang Lebah-2 exploration well was successfully drilled to a depth of 4,320m in mid-January with over 600m of proven net gas pay.
“The well was tested and flowed at 50 million cubic feet of gas per day with a significant amount of gas in place. This is an appraisal drilling to confirm the upside potential and to accelerate the development programme,” Firouz said.
