
The appointment, along with those of 21 new MAIWP members, was made with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (religious affairs) Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said in a statement today.
Zulkifli handed over the letters of appointment at the Putrajaya Islamic Complex yesterday.
He said Daud, who is also chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia, is an Islamic finance scholar as well as shariah board member of various global financial institutions.
Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) director-general Abdul Aziz Jusoh was appointed deputy chairman of MAIWP.
Zulkifli said in line with the provisions of the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 (Act 505), five ex officio members were also appointed.
They are the Prime Minister’s Department senior deputy secretary-general Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan representing the chief secretary, Attorney-General Idrus Harun; Kuala Lumpur police chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin representing the inspector-general of police, Federal Territories Mufti Luqman Abdullah and Kuala Lumpur mayor Mahadi Che Ngah.
Abdul Aziz Rahman, Mohd Zafir Ibrahim, Anwari Suri, Shamrahayu Ab Aziz and Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali were appointed MAIWP members.
Several scholars and experts in various fields have also been appointed, including Sulaiman Mahbob, Rameli Musa, Mohd Ghazali Md Noor, Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir and Abdul Rahman Putra Taha.
Others are Yusri Mohamad, Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah, Zainal Abidin Shaikh Zakaria and Mohd Roslan Mohd Nor.
Zulkifli said Department of Federal Territory Islamic Affairs (JAWI) director Mohd Ajib Ismail was appointed secretary of MAIWP.
