Temples, churches allowed to open in MCO, CMCO, RMCO areas

The National Unity Department says strict standard operating procedures will be in place.

Houses of worship under MCO areas are allowed a maximum of 30 devotees at one time.
PETALING JAYA:
The government today said that non-Muslim places of worship such as temples and churches are allowed to open in areas placed under the movement control order (MCO), conditional movement control order (CMCO) and recovery movement control order (RMCO).

The National Unity Department said the opening of temples and churches are subject to strict standard operating procedures. They will open between Feb 19 and March 4.

Houses of worship under MCO areas:

  • Maximum of 30 people/devotees are allowed in the premises at one time.
  • Prayers are fixed at 6am-2pm and 4pm-10pm.

Houses of worship under CMCO areas:

  • The number of devotees is not allowed to exceed 50% of the capacity of the temple or church, subject to its determination by the National Security Council (MKN) and approval from the respective state governments.

Houses of worship under RMCO areas:

  • The number of devotees will be according to the size of the premises.
  • The times for prayers will be set by temple or church managements.

Meanwhile, the government said prayers are allowed within the house compounds for Chap Goh Mei (the last day of the Chinese New Year celebration) on Feb 26.

The regulation applies to all who live under MCO, CMCO and RMCO areas.
