‘Insignificant’ Gerakan rejected by Chinese, Indian voters, says Kadir Jasin

Former newsman says the party's membership in PN is akin to MCA and MIC in BN, having also been rejected by the non-Malays.

PETALING JAYA:
Veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin has belittled Gerakan over its move to join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, saying the party had been “totally rejected by Chinese and Indian voters, just like MCA and MIC in Barisan Nasional (BN)”.

He also said the party’s presence in PN was similar to that of the Makkal Sakti Malaysia Party, the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress and the All Malaysian Indian Progressive Front in BN, with its contribution to the coalition being insignificant.

“Joining PN is nothing more than an attempt to stop floating aimlessly in the turbulent ocean of politics,” he said in a Facebook post.

Kadir added that the move also showed PN’s desperation in wanting to increase and diversify its membership in order to give the impression that it was a coalition for all races.

In a Facebook post yesterday, prime minister and PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin shared a photo of him presenting a membership certificate to Gerakan President Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, officially welcoming the former BN component into the ruling coalition.

Aside from PPBM and PAS, PN also comprises two parties from Sabah, namely STAR and the Sabah Progressive Party.
