JASIN:
Rembia assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis, who left PKR and became an independent for nine months, joined Umno today.

The matter was announced by Umno Alor Gajah division chief Abdul Ghafar Atan at the division’s delegates meeting here, Bernama reported.

“In Melaka, the objectives and goals of PN (Perikatan Nasional) can be achieved by Melaka BN (Barisan Nasional) led by Umno. That’s why I joined Umno,” Jailani told reporters after the meeting.

Ghafar also announced the appointment of Jailani as the Umno Alor Gajah division information chief replacing Ismail Ibrahim who voluntarily withdrew from the post.

Jailani is also a member of the Melaka state executive council, holding the tourism and culture portfolio.

He was among four assembly members who switched support to PN in March, causing the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government. The others were Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu); Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen (Paya Rumput) and Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas).

Jailani was later expelled from PKR together with Batu Lintang Assemblyman, See Chee How, for breach of party discipline.
