KUALA LUMPUR:
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, has consented to the conferment of the Panglima Gagah Berani (PGB) medal and the rank of sergeant on the two General Operations Force (GOF) members involved in the fatal shooting incident at the Malaysia-Thailand border on Tuesday, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Cpl Baharuddin Ramli was killed and Cpl Norihan Tari seriously injured in the incident near Padang Besar, Perlis.

Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin said the conferment of the medal and rank was in appreciation of their deeds and sacrifices in discharging their duties.

“On behalf of the government, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the royal consent to the conferment of the PGB medal to the two GOF members,” he said during Minister’s Question Time.

He said Baharuddin would be conferred the medal and rank posthumously.

Hamzah said the government had always recognised the deeds and sacrifices of armed forces personnel to ensure peace and security in the country.
