Speaking at a press conference today, he said the health ministry had recorded 62 workplace clusters so far.

He said there were currently 37 active workplace clusters, including the newly identified Lintas and Limbungan clusters in Sabah and Labuan.

One million workers in the public and private sectors in states under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) involved in management and supervision were instructed to work from home last week in a bid to reduce the number of workers at offices.

The affected states are Selangor, Sabah and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

Thanking employers and private companies for helping to come together to stem the spread of Covid-19, Noor Hisham said pro-active steps such as employee screenings help the ministry detect positive cases who may be asymptomatic.

“This (screening) can also stem the transmission of Covid-19 in communities and beyond by protecting individuals from high-risk groups, such as the elderly and children,” he said.

Reminding employees to always comply with SOPs while they are at work, Noor Hisham also stressed the importance of having a clean workplace in order to break the chain of Covid-19 infections.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said the health ministry was glad to see that the rate of infection (R0, pronounced R-naught) in Selangor has dropped from 2.2 to 1.2. An R0 value is used to calculate how fast the Covid-19 virus is spreading.

“If we can bring it down to 0.3, we can flatten the curve,” he said.

“I hope we are at the peak now.

“If we are at the peak, then probably give us another three or four weeks and we can bring the cases down to two digits or a single digit in time to come.”

Selangor recorded 126 new cases today and has a total of 4,271 cases. It’s tally is second only to Sabah, which has a total of 13,155 cases.

The 835 new cases across the country today bring the total number of infections in Malaysia to 28,640.
