New Adib inquest will be a waste of time, says Zahid

Umno president says the proposal negates the coroner's decision and delays justice for Adib and his family.

A riot at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya in 2018 led to the death of a fireman.
PETALING JAYA:
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described as “a waste of time” a proposed fresh inquest into the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in 2018.

He said it would delay the delivery of justice and negate the decision of the Shah Alam coroner’s court.

He added that the offenders should be charged with murder and not with rioting. “The offence was serious as it was committed against a civil servant who was just carrying out his duty,” Zahid said in a statement today.

Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim died after he was assaulted during the riot.

He said a new inquest would delay the justice that Adib and his family deserved.

The coroner’s court had established that Adib died due to injuries from a riot outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya in November 2018.

Yesterday, police suggested another inquest into his death, along with 12 new suspects to be charged under Section 143 of the Penal Code with rioting and attacking the fire engine.
