Take the polygraph test, Khairuddin tells Anwar

This comes after the PKR president says it's not for him to take the polygraph test to prove his innocence.

PETALING JAYA:
Vocal Dr Mahathir Mohamad loyalist Khairuddin Abu Hassan has questioned Anwar Ibrahim’s reservations in taking a polygraph test as part of the ongoing police probe into a sexual assault complaint lodged against him.

Khairuddin said the PKR president should take the test to prove that he was telling the truth in denying allegations by his former research assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.

He said he could not understand Anwar’s explanation that there is no basis to undergo a polygraph test.

Khairuddin reminded him that Yusoff’s allegations were made in a sworn statement, and that Anwar should take them seriously.

He said it is only proper for Anwar to sue Yusoff if the claims in the statement were lies.

“Or he should lodge a police report against his former research assistant,” said Khairuddin.

Yesterday, Anwar said a polygraph test is only needed when there are witness statements and details such as the time and place of an incident.

He also said he knew the masterminds behind the latest allegations.

Khairuddin said Anwar should name them.

On Dec 17, Yusoff spent four hours at the Bukit Aman police headquarters to undergo a polygraph test.

Police, who have yet to release results of the test, have since referred the matter to Attorney-General Tommy Thomas.

Yusoff’s police report against Anwar in early December resulted in a probe by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which deals with using criminal force to outrage a person’s modesty.

Anwar has strongly denied the allegations.
