The suspect, who has three convictions, was picked up in a sting operation.
KOTA KINABALU:
Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged rape of a 72-year-old grandmother in Tuaran last week.

The victim claimed she was raped at her house in Tamparuli on Dec 7 but only filed a complaint four days later.

Tuaran police chief Hamizi Halim said the suspect, a local man, was picked up during a sting operation at Kampung Pukak in Kiulu, Tuaran, yesterday morning.

“We found out the suspect has three convictions involving house break-ins and car theft,” he told reporters.

The woman, who was home alone, said in her report she was awakened at around midnight and saw a man whom she did not know standing in front of her.

After telling her not to make any noise, he asked the victim to let him have sex with her as, he said, he had not had intercourse for some time.

The woman refused and tried to fight off the suspect but failed. The suspect raped her and fled soon after, she claimed.
