
Speaking to reporters in Parliament, he said the board did not question the content of the MACC letter.
“As a party, we must be strict in combating corruption and abuse of power.
“Technical error or not is a different story. I will refer (it) to the disciplinary board.”
When questioned, he said Bera PKR division leader Zakaria Abdul Hamid and ordinary member Ismail Dulhadi could appeal against the decision to sack them.
“But the contents of the letter are serious. They do not amount to charges, but they tell us to take action and show proof,” he added.
Zakaria and Ismail were dismissed following an MACC investigation into allegations of corruption against them.
PKR disciplinary chairman Ahmad Kassim said MACC had written to the party on Oct 23 about the alleged misconduct during last year’s party elections, while the party’s communications director, Fahmi Fadzil, said MACC had advised the party to look into the matter and take the necessary disciplinary action.
However, Zakaria said he had not been informed about any report lodged against him with the disciplinary board, and he accused the party of acting without hearing his defence.
Yesterday, MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said agency officials had made a mistake in advising PKR to take action against Zakaria and Ismail.
He said MACC was only required to send reports of wrongdoing to government agencies or ministries, not to political parties.
On claims of selective disciplinary action by PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, Anwar said no charge sheet had been sent to them yet from either the police or MACC.
“If there is, we will take action,” he said.
When asked about talk that a motion will be tabled on Dec 4 in support of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar said he had not heard of it.
“Any such motion should be brought forward to the Pakaran Harapan presidential council, and we will listen to it,” he said.
