PETALING JAYA: A popular Hong Kong website which has come under fire for its negative coverage of the ongoing protests in the island-city has been linked to a man who has been on the run from Malaysian authorities over his role in the 1MDB scandal.
The South China Morning Post reported that Toh Lean Seng, who is wanted for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC), is the founder of Asia United Media (AUM), the company linked to Dim Sum Daily.
Toh is believed to have left Malaysia and is wanted alongside fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil and Mohamad Redzuan Adamshah, over the investigations into 1MDB.
AUM is one of many firms established by Toh in Hong Kong, alongside Legion Tech, Legion Media, and DDT Holdings.
Dim Sum Daily’s reports on Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement angered social media users recently, after it published an anonymous article accusing an expat blogger who attended a protest of being a CIA agent.
