SHAH ALAM:
After two days of spring tides, there have been no reports of riverine flooding caused by higher levels of sea water at estuaries causing rivers to overflow at coastal areas of Selangor.

The Selangor Disaster Management Unit said the bunds in the coastal areas of five districts identified to be at risk were in good condition.

The Klang, Kuala Langat, Sepang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam districts have been placed on high alert for possible floods caused by strong winds and heavy rain during the spring tides, which occur at the period of the full moon and new moon.

High water during the spring tides from Sept 1-3 is expected to reach 5.7 metres. The next spring tide will occur on Sept 29 to Oct 2, and from Oct 27-30.

Several agencies including local authorities have been directed to be on alert.
