KUALA LUMPUR:
The High Court trial judge in Najib Razak’s SRC International Sdn Bhd case today warned former prime minister Najib Razak and the public not to make comments on the on-going trial.

Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali said such comments about a case in court “may run foul of the law”.

“Posting evidence, especially by the accused (Najib), is bordering on contempt.

“In future, if anyone wishes to make such comments, they should seek legal advice,” he said.

Fiat prosecutor V Sithambaran told the court today that they will not proceed with the hearing application on Aug 13 to compel Najib to apologise for his Facebook post last month.

Najib’s lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the court that they will also be withdrawing their bid to strike out the application.

“It’s good news for us,” he added.

Najib took to Facebook to state that his credit card was used to purchase gifts for a member of the royal family, saying it was the norm to present gifts to foreign dignitaries.

His comments on social media came after an AmBank officer Yeoh Eng Leong had told the court that RM3.9 million of SRC International’s money was used in 2014 and 2015 to settle Najib’s credit card bills.

Earlier today, the trial continued with investigating officer Rosli Hussain, from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), telling the court that his subordinates handed him the documents they had retrieved for SRC International investigations in 2015.

He added more documents were handed to him on July last year.

The hearing continues on Tuesday (Aug 13) afternoon.

Najib is facing six charges of money laundering and criminal breach of trust in the transfer of RM42 million to his account from SRC International, a former unit of 1MDB.

He is also accused of abusing his power as prime minister by giving government guarantees on SRC International’s RM4 billion loan from Retirement Fund Inc.
