KOTA BHARU:
The police have obtained the statements of seven witnesses about an attack on the Kelantan Umno Veterans deputy chairman Kamaruddin Abdullah, who was slashed on the head last week.

Kota Bharu district police chief Abdul Rahim Daud said the identities of the suspects could not be ascertained as there was no closed-circuit television recordings at the scene of the attack.

He said that a statement had also been taken from the victim but police had not been able to obtain any information about the attack.

‘’The police will conduct a comprehensive investigation and the latest development on the case will be obtained soon,’’ he told a media conference here today.

Abdul Rahim said the police would also investigate an allegation by the victim’s son, Shahrul Nasrun, who said that the attack could be linked to drugs.

Newspapers had recently reported that Shahrul Nasrun did not rule out the possibility that the motive of the attack on his father had links with drugs.

Kamaruddin was seriously injured at 7.30pm on Sunday after being hacked on the head and ribs by two men on a motorcycle in front of a coffee shop in Jalan Tengku Chik here.
