Samirah Muzaffar, 44, and the two boys, aged 15 and 17, were jointly charged, together with Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is still at large, with murdering Nazrin at his home in Mutiara Damansara, between 11.30pm on June 13, 2018, and 4am on June 14, 2018.

The offence, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence.

No plea was recorded, and no bail offered.

Lawyers LS Leonard and Mahindarjit Singh appeared for the trio, while deputy public prosecutors Jamal Arifin and Mohd Zain Ibrahim prosecuted.

Jamal applied for the case to be transferred to the High Court, which was approved by magistrate Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir.

No date has yet been fixed.

Samira’s father, prominent thinker Chandra Muzaffar, was also present in court today.

In the first post-mortem, Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathologists concluded that Nazrin, 45, died of blast injuries after his mobile phone, which was charging next to his bed, exploded.

The case was re-classified as murder after investigators from the fire and rescue department discovered traces of petroleum in the bedroom.

A second post-mortem revealed that Nazrin had died of multiple head injuries.
