The accused’s lawyer, Kitson Foong, told reporters today doctors at the hospital require more time to assess the teenager as they are handling many other cases.
“This is not to waste the court’s time, but the doctors have their hands full attending to many patients,” he told reporters outside the magistrates’ court after mention of the case.
The mention was held behind closed doors as the case involved a juvenile.
Foong stressed the need for the report, saying it was crucial to determine the accused’s mental state at the time of the alleged incident and whether he is fit to stand trial.
He said the boy’s family had given full cooperation to assist the hospital in preparing the report.
Magistrate Amira Sariaty Zainal set Dec 19 for submission of the report.
Deputy public prosecutor Syed Ahmed Khabir Abdul Rahman appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Nur Izni Syazwani Ahmad held a watching brief for the deceased’s mother.
The teen is accused of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old schoolmate in the girls’ toilet at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) here between 9.20am and 9.35am on Oct 14.
The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
