SUBANG JAYA:
Several suspects being held in connection with the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25 near here last week were brought to the temple today to facilitate police investigations.

They arrived in a bus at about 12.45pm, dressed in lock-up attire and escorted by police officers. They left at about 1.10pm.

Checks by Bernama found more than 50 policemen, including from the Federal Reserve Unit, in the area.

Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said police had arrested 58 people so far to facilitate investigations into the case – 18 Indians, two Chinese and 38 Malays.

The fracas broke out over the relocation of the 100-year-old temple. A firefighter, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, was seriously injured in an assault and is currently being treated at the National Heart Institute.

Several policemen were also injured in the incident, which saw 23 vehicles torched or damaged and business premises vandalised.
