Speaking to FMT, Rashid described Sabah PKR election director Rosli Masaliku’s grouses as “not valid”.
Rosli had said he was unhappy that election committee members from the Peninsular had “taken over” at voting centres when it was earlier agreed that the state team would take the lead.
“We are the central election committee, we go to states to carry out the party polls, not the Sabah election committee members.
“Their role is to help coordinate additional manpower and logistics. It’s the same with all the other states.”
He added that for each division, only four central election committee members were present and that the rest of the election committee personnel at the voting centres were from Sabah.
Rosli had said that he received many complaints that JPP members from the peninsula, who were initially sent to help out, had instead outnumbered the Sabahan members and overridden them at the voting centres.
On whether fresh polls will be held in Sabah following reports of issues there, Rashid said this will have to be studied first, but conceded this may not be so easy to do, given the logistical challenges.
He said the JPP will convene tomorrow on the matter, but so far, there were no “big issues”. The election in the Keningau division had to be stopped after the candidate for the deputy president’s post, Rafizi Ramli, was allegedly assaulted at the polling centre.
Police had to step in after an argument between Rafizi and a group of party members led to a fracas.
“There were some issues with the Keningau and Tawau divisions, but in most places, the issues were normal, where there were too many members and they were excited to see the big names.”
Unofficial results from the two-day PKR election in Sabah show a victory for deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who won the state after polling more than 10,000 votes.
Azmin garnered a total of 10,466 votes against rival Rafizi in 24 out of the 25 state divisions that voted. Rafizi meanwhile polled 8,872 votes, 1,574 behind Azmin.
Azmin, the economic affairs minister, won in 15 divisions compared to Rafizi who won in nine, although this doesn’t include the results from the Keningau division.
