Calling the reported disputes “complete horse manure”, Gooi Hsiao Leung who is the party’s elected central committee member, said airing dirty laundry in public would do Anwar no favours in his journey to become the country’s eighth prime minister.
“The infighting has seriously undermined Anwar’s public image in the country as the leader of our party and incoming prime minister.
“How can Anwar be expected to be the prime minister if the voters and our partners in Pakatan Harapan (PH) see us as a bunch of bickering fools, as being factional and destructive?” the Bukit Tengah assemblyman said in a statement.
As the party with the most federal seats in the country, he added, PKR had a responsibility to maintain its pride and respect among the voters.
“We will only be seen as the weakest link in PH when we should be working hard to earn the respect and trust of our governing partners.
“All this incessant talk about questioning loyalties and who have been the real or fake reformers in the party for the past 20 years is complete horse manure.”
He added that the upcoming party polls were not a contest between vice-president Rafizi Ramli and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali.
“Regardless of the outcome of our elections, we all have to come together, victors and losers alike, to work towards a new May 9 agenda in the best interests of our party, PH and our beloved nation,” he said.
Gooi, who is former Alor Setar MP, won the Bukit Tengah state seat in Penang in the May 9 general election.
He has indicated that he will not be seeking re-election as a member of the central committee in the PKR polls
