KLANG:
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a special visit to the Equanimity today to survey the superyacht which has been held at Port Klang here since its arrival in Malaysian waters on Tuesday.

He arrived at the Boustead Cruise Centre at 11.40am, accompanied by a police escort.

Also present were Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Armed Forces chief Zulkifli Zainal Abidin.

The RM1 billion Equanimity is at the centre of a US investigation into 1MDB. It has been linked to businessman Low Taek Jho, and is believed to have been acquired with funds allegedly plundered from the state investment firm.

Indonesian police seized the yacht at the request of the US authorities and handed it over to Malaysia after a recent visit by Mahathir to the country.

The 1MDB legal team appointed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers to represent the investment firm and Putrajaya has said that it will take six to nine months to determine who owns the 91m yacht.

Thanks to Equanimity, Port Klang is drawing the crowds
