The investigation followed a report lodged by former top intelligence officer Hasanah Ab Hamid, who wanted police to investigate who leaked the letter she wrote to CIA director Gina Haspel.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Fuzi Harun refused to reveal more details, other than saying that investigation papers would be submitted to the public prosecutor’s office.
“I do not wish to reveal the suspects who leaked the letter,” he told reporters today.
Hasanah, who headed the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO), said the letter was a normal correspondence between intelligence officers of two countries, but said it was confidential.
“It was made in good faith,” she had said recently through her lawyer, following allegations that she committed “treason” by urging the US government to support BN in the May 9 polls.
In her letter dated May 4, Hasanah described then prime minister Najib Razak as a friend of the US as opposed to the “anti-West, anti-Semite” Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Meanwhile, Fuzi said police were still on the lookout for fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, to assist in the 1MDB investigations.
“So far I have not received any information from other countries on his whereabouts. If we do, we will be the first to announce it,” he said.
It was reported that Low was last seen in Macau and fled before authorities there could detain him. He is now believed to be staying in Hong Kong. The police had sent a red alert notice to Interpol in June.
