PETALING JAYA:
An aide to Selangor exco Shaharuddin Badaruddin today denied news reports that the Seri Setia assemblyman was critically ill and had been warded in the intensive care unit.

In a statement, Shaharuddin’s senior private secretary Zafrullah Aris said he was on leave for a month after undergoing treatment.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Zafrullah added, had been informed of this.

“His family is denying media reports that Shaharuddin is allegedly in critical condition and is being treated at the ICU.”

The family to the PKR vice-president, Zafrullah said, was also requesting that everyone allow him to rest.

Sin Chew Daily last night reported that the Selangor exco in charge of Islamic affairs was suffering from colon cancer.

Several PKR leaders were unable to confirm Shaharuddin’s current condition.

Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin told Malaysiakini that the first-term assemblyman had been ill.

“Yes, he is not that well, but I’m not sure of his status as per the (Sin Chew Daily) report,” the portal quoted her as saying.

In the May 9 general election, Shaharuddin garnered 29,250 votes to win the Seri Setia seat.

He was also mentioned as a candidate for the menteri besar post, prior to Amirudin’s appointment.
