PETALING JAYA:
A Selangor PKR leader has resigned from his post, citing the “death” of democracy in the party, ahead of internal elections next month.

Selangor PKR Youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman said there had been unfair political appointments in the state, including in the choice of local councillors.

He said some Selangor PKR leaders were practising cronyism and nepotism by making political appointments as a reward.

“It is clear political appointments are only given to those who show their loyalty to certain factions and not based on merit.

“In the appointments of local councillors for example, qualifications, ability, experience and contributions to the struggles should be the important criteria,” he said.

Syed Badli said party hierarchy was ignored as those seen as not being on the same page with the leadership were sidelined, although some, he said, had long been part of PKR.

He accused some party leaders of disregarding the party’s principles and the spirit of Reformasi, adding that differences of opinions were not tolerated by “arrogant” state leaders.

“These leaders prefer party members who toe the line without giving any views which contradict theirs.”
