PETALING JAYA:
A group comprising second-generation Felcra settlers has urged the government to ensure the land in Felcra Changkat Lada, Perak, remains as a gift from the state government to them.

Pertubuhan Generasi Felcra Nasional (GESA) does not want the housing project on the land to be opened to the public.

“The land for the housing project, in Taman Felcra Jaya Seberang Perak Fasa 2, is a gift to us.

“But now the project has been opened to other buyers to purchase, making it like a commercial project,” the group’s chairman Ishak Saari said.

He also said that the prices of the “affordable” houses built by the developer for them were too high and they would not be able to afford them on their earnings as farmers.

“They offered us between RM128,888 and RM326,888 for the houses with four different designs.

“This project was initially placed under Felcra Bhd but later it was switched to Koperasi Peserta Felcra, and managed by Felcra Properties Sdn Bhd,” Ishak said.

He claimed the prices had gone up because of the change in developer.

“They do not care about our welfare,” he said.

It was reported in Sept 2016 that Felcra Bhd had identified nine locations in the country to build 1,183 houses for Felcra settlers.

Each unit was estimated to cost between RM60,000 and RM100,000.

Felcra, a company owned by the finance ministry, was set up with the aim to develop rural areas by helping the people to participate in commercial activities.
