1MDB: Appointment of new exco chairman part of PwC services

The state investment firm says PwC is assisting the 1MDB board and exco in recovering 1MDB assets and managing the company's debt.

State investment firm 1MDB today clarified that the appointment of Mohammad Faiz Azmi as chairman of its new executive committee was part of the scope and services provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services Sdn Bhd (PwC).

In a statement, it said PwC was assisting the 1MDB board and exco in recovering 1MDB assets and managing the company’s debt.

1MDB announced Faiz’s appointment to the exco on June 26.

The committee, comprising Faiz, Rashidah Mohd Sies and Wan Mohd Fadzmi Wan Othman, was entrusted with managing the day-to-day running of the company.

Faiz, who is executive chairman of PwC Malaysia, has been an assurance partner in financial services since 1996.

He is the immediate past president of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and past chairman of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB).

He was recently appointed chair of the Islamic Finance Consultative Group of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
