SHAH ALAM:
Newly installed Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari today dismissed claims that Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders had not backed him for the appointment, saying there was no time to “play politics”.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said he would leave it to the PH leadership to explain.

“Everyone has their own view. I want to stress that it is time for us to cooperate and work hard for Selangor.

“I promise that I am a team player, and I will make sure that the team moves forward together.

“We have to work hard to ensure that we will be able to deliver,” he said, adding that his appointment as menteri besar was not about individual glory.

Earlier today, Ijok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad had claimed that he was the only menteri besar candidate who was fully endorsed by all PH component parties.

He said Amirudin was only backed by former menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“Only one name was suggested, and that was my name. My name had the blessings of all parties in PH and was sent to the Sultan of Selangor,” Idris told a press conference this morning.

Idris also alleged that Azmin’s candidature as Selangor menteri besar was not endorsed by PH after the 14th general election.

Amirudin said his current focus was to proceed with the existing plans for the state.

Although the plans might be improved on, he said any major changes might disturb what had already been implemented.

“We will focus on delivering what we planned. I will go to the ground to observe,” he said, adding that he had two to three years to prove himself and would do his best.

“If Selangor fails, that means Malaysia will have to bear that fate, so it is our responsibility to help perform not only in Selangor, but in Putrajaya and Malaysia as well, as has been done by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said.
