Speaking to reporters after attending case mention on behalf of Jamal at the Magistrate’s Court here, Imran Tamrin said he was still unable to contact his client who has been missing for over two weeks.
“His phone is still unreachable. Even his family members cannot contact him.
“We only learn any information about him through the news,” he said.
Magistrate Raja Noor Adila Raja Mahyaldin today issued an arrest warrant for Jamal after his no-show in court, and set the next mention on July 11.
Jamal was charged on May 25 under Section 290 of the Penal Code for allegedly causing a public nuisance with his beer smashing stunt in front of the Selangor state secretariat building last year.
The charges were read to him in the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for back pain. However, he left the hospital without completing his bail process.
Imran said there were currently three arrest warrants against Jamal, including the court’s warrant today.
Police had issued warrants for Jamal’s arrest after he failed to appear at the police station to settle his bail and escaped while on hospital remand.
When asked if he would recuse himself from representing Jamal, Imran said he has no intention of quitting.
“I am just doing my job as a lawyer and the Sungai Besar Umno division legal advisor,” he said.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said yesterday the authorities were confident that Jamal is currently in Indonesia, adding that he would be arrested soon.
