
The former deputy prime minister said the meeting was in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.
“May this meeting bring benefit to all,” he said in a Facebook post.
In July last year, Zahid, who was then the home minister, courted controversy when he claimed to have documented proof that Mahathir’s real name was Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty, and that he was not a Malay.
“His blue IC states that his name is Mahathir a/l (son of) Iskandar Kutty. His IC number is 2232519.
“The National Registration Department chief gave me this information. No wonder he says Malays easily forget,” Zahid said at a meeting with Umno members.
Zahid had served under Mahathir during his first tenure as prime minister in the 1990s.
The Bagan Datuk MP, who was once part of the Anwar Ibrahim faction in Umno, was arrested under the Internal Security Act in 1998, at the height of the fallout between Mahathir and Anwar.
On Monday, Mahathir welcomed another of his staunch critics to his office, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
