PETALING JAYA:
Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos has offered himself as a candidate for the party’s Youth chief in the upcoming Umno polls, even as he was issued a warrant of arrest after he vanished from his hospital bed hours after being charged.

Writing on Facebook, Jamal said he wanted to help rebuild the spirit of Umno members.

“I, Jamal Md Yunos, offer myself as a candidate for the post of Umno Malaysia Youth chief for the term 2018-2021,” he wrote.

“Let us rise together for the sake of the virtuous struggle to help regain the support and trust of the people,” he said.

Two others who have expressed interest in the post are Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun and former deputy minister Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Current Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin will be contesting for the vice-president’s post.

On Friday, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said a warrant of arrest was issued on Jamal after he failed to surrender himself despite police giving him sufficient time to do so.

Jamal went missing from the Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for back pain, a few hours after he was charged there before a magistrate on May 25.

He had pleaded not guilty to three charges and was allowed bail of RM3,000 for each.
