PTPTN chairman Shamsul Anuar Nasarah says the plans to write off student loans are unrealistic.
ENGGONG:
National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) chairman Shamsul Anuar Nasarah yesterday criticised the plans of Pakatan Harapan and PAS to write off PTPTN loans if they win the coming election, calling them unrealistic.

He said if this were to happen, the government’s debt burden would worsen because PTPTN would have to service RM52.86 billion in loans to 2.84 million borrowers with financial institutions.

“In this situation, the government might be forced to reduce expenditure in other areas like development, welfare, health and others which will adversely impact the people,” he told reporters while making campaign rounds here yesterday.

Shamsul Anuar is the Barisan Nasional incumbent for the Lenggong parliamentary seat.
