“I think a lot of people believe that a change in government at the federal level is needed to fix a lot of the problems the government is facing,” he told FMT on the sidelines of a Pakatan Harapan (PH) event here yesterday.

He cited individuals such as Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) founder Wan Saiful Wan Jan and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) lecturer Maszlee Malik, who have joined PPBM, and former Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah who is contesting on a PKR ticket.

Syahredzan, who has often claimed to be apolitical himself, added that democracy would never be realised in a country if one party was allowed to rule for too long.

“These individuals, I don’t think they’re necessarily fans of PH. But I think they believe that after not having a change in government for 60 years, there needs to be a change for democracy to be realised.”

Syahredzan, who was one of the speakers at the ceramah, had earlier called on those who attended the event to come out on May 9 and vote for PH.

“This area is a Chinese-majority area and there are quite a few Indians as well. You won’t see many Malays, but trust me, the Malays now want change too.

“Come May 9, there will not only be a Malay tsunami – there will be a Chinese tsunami, an Indian tsunami, an Iban tsunami and a Kadazan tsunami, and we will demolish Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said to thunderous applause.
