MUAR:
Kamarolzaman Mohd Jidi, vice-chairman of PPBM Hang Tuah Jaya, faces expulsion for having filed his papers as an independent candidate in Ayer Molek.

PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin said any PPBM member who contests against the party as an independent candidate in an election would be expelled.

“Following party rules he will be sacked. This is something that we have discussed before,” he said.

“I have yet to receive news pertaining to this, but if he has indeed done so, action will be taken,” he said after a ceramah at Jalan Bakri here last night.

Kamarolzaman was announced as one of four candidates in Ayer Molek yesterday. Pakatan Harapan fears the crowded field would give the coalition a slimmer chance against Barisan Nasional.

The candidates are: Farhan bin Ibrahim @ Alias (PH-PPBM); Rahmad Mariman (BN), Jantan Abdullah (PAS) and Kamarolzaman (Ind).

Md. Yunos Bin Husin (BN) was returned in the last election in 2013.

Ayer Molek is one of four state seats within the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency, where Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, a PKR vice-president seeks re-election.

Hang Tuah Jaya was previously known as Bukit Katil. The electorate was recently reduced from 99,400 to 80,800 after a redelineation exercise.
