MCA: If there’s a Malay tsunami, why run from Malay-majority seats?

MCA top leader says the opposition has been claiming that a Malay tsunami is coming but senior non-Malay leaders of PKR and DAP are avoiding Malay-majority seats.

MCA publicity bureau chairman Chai Kim Sen says if there really is going to be a Malay tsunami, PKR and DAP leaders should be rushing to the seats with more Malay voters.
KUALA LUMPUR:
MCA said today that although the opposition talks about a Malay tsunami taking place in the coming general election, its actions contradict its words.

MCA publicity bureau chairman Chai Kim Sen asked why, if it was true that a Malay tsunami was about to happen, senior non-Malay DAP and PKR leaders were avoiding contests in Malay-majority areas.

He said this appeared to indicate that they knew there would be no Malay tsunami in the 14th general election on May 9.

“Yesterday, PKR’s Tian Chua admitted that he was hesitant to contest in Johor in the Tebrau and Ledang seats, which have more Malay voters, although Pakatan Harapan has declared Johor as its key battleground state.

“At the same time, PKR’s Xavier Jayakumar was forced to move seats after he said that his current Sungai Kandis seat in Selangor now has more Malays after the redelineation.”

Similarly, Chai claimed DAP’s Tony Pua did not want to go to Bentong in Pahang while Gobind Singh, Teoh Nie Ching and Boo Cheng Hau were “hesitant to be re-deployed” to other seats in Johor which had a greater population of Malay voters.

He said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, who continued to talk about a Malay tsunami, had not taken up the challenge by Umno incumbent Johor Baru MP Shahrir Abdul Samad to contest that seat.

Instead, Lim had opted to defend the Gelang Patah seat, now known as Iskandar Puteri.

“If there is going to be a Malay tsunami, as they claim, shouldn’t these PKR and DAP leaders be rushing to those seats with more Malay voters in order to ride the wave of the tsunami instead of staying away?” Chai asked.
