The edited poster was based on a notice by Permatang Pauh Umno chief Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said.
He had earlier sent out pictures on WhatsApp, announcing a giveaway of 5,000 pairs of spectacles to village people on Sunday.
The edited poster, however, proclaimed a “5,000 underwear giveaway” with the symbol for spectacles changed to a symbol resembling a bra.
Zaidi’s face meanwhile was replaced by an unknown person called “Dato Sri Ustaz Amran Noordin”.
The tagline was changed from “jom pi periksa mata, dapat terus cermin mata” to “jom periksa dada, dapat terus sarung dada”.
When contacted, Zaidi said he was shocked to find the edited version of his poster being spread on social media.
Adding that his team had found 60 such postings online, he said he would lodge a police report on the matter and hoped the culprit would be investigated under the new anti-fake news law gazetted yesterday.
He denied any knowledge of a person named “Amran Noordin” and said he had since put out a message informing people that the underwear giveaway was fake.
