He added that the move was a sacrifice on the part of DAP, and had been made in order to achieve the bigger goal of winning Putrajaya.
“Yes, for the first time, we are going to rest the rocket so that the people will have a clear choice at the polls,” Lim said on the sidelines of an event in Tanjung Bungah today.
When asked if the PKR symbol would be used as the common logo by candidates from PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM, Lim said the coalition’s decision would be announced by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council.
He added that the use of a common logo would help PPBM candidates after the party’s provisional deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) yesterday over alleged violations of federal regulations.
“In history, there has never been a time where the prime minister candidate has been barred from contesting through his party with a valid reason,” Lim said.
Meanwhile, Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow hinted that the PKR logo would be used by DAP candidates.
He said the use of other opposition party logos did not mean the candidate had changed allegiance.
“If we use PKR logos, for instance, that does not mean we are joining PKR. We are doing so for the election purpose only. We are still DAP candidates using a common logo under PH.
“If we use PKR’s blue-eye logo, it does not go against our state’s anti-hopping law because the candidates are not changing parties.
“We are not using our logo, but using another logo endorsed by the Election Commission.”
Yesterday, PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the common logo would be revealed at a ceramah in Pasir Gudang, Johor tonight.
“We have said before that we will use one logo. We are one, we are Pakatan Harapan. Nothing is going to break us,” he said at a press conference following a PH presidential council meeting.
Mahathir said PH had made contingency plans in view of the problems it was facing, from the failure to register PH as a coalition to the possibility of PPBM’s deregistration.
