The forum, titled “Political talk on Penang’s truth”, will be held in Guan Eng’s Bagan federal constituency in Butterworth.
Both DAP leaders are listed as “unconfirmed special guests” in the poster inviting the public to the forum.
“MCA has officially written to invite Lim Guan Eng to our forum on Friday at 7.30pm. We would like to now extend the invitation to Kit Siang as well.
“In fact, I welcome Kit Siang to come meet me face to face and test my knowledge on this subject himself.
“Let Kit Siang, find out if I am ‘following anyone’s script’, as he has alleged.
“Kit Siang and Guan Eng. See you there at 7.30pm sharp on Friday,” he said in a statement today.
Wee, who is also minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, was responding to claims by Kit Siang that he had taken instructions from Umno leaders to question Guan Eng.
Wee said Kit Siang was again trying to distract people’s attention from the main issue, that is for Guan Eng to attend the forum in his own parliamentary constituency and answer questions on the Penang undersea tunnel project.
“In wrongly accusing me of taking directions from anyone to question his son, Kit Siang has also avoided answering whether he will come to the forum instead of his son and explain to the people why he believes my findings on the project, costing RM20.5 billion, are wrong.
“I appreciate Kit Siang’s need to defend his son but that is not a valid excuse to lie and wrongly accuse me.”
Wee said he is a trained civil engineer and had experience previously in his career, specialising in feasibility studies, traffic impact assessment and environmental impact assessment.
Wee also demanded that Kit Siang apologise for “slandering him” by saying he was “following the script” of others in criticising the Penang undersea tunnel project.
“I will tolerate you calling me names like ‘cats paw’ and ‘ninja assassin’, but I will not accept you slandering me.
“If there is no apology, I reserve my right to take legal action,” he said.
The debate over the tunnel project has not only involved Guan Eng and Kit Siang but also Barisan Nasional strategic communications unit director Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
Today, Kit Siang claimed that Rahman has revealed himself as the hand behind Umno’s “ninja assassin” Wee.
He accused Rahman of providing the MCA deputy president with the “script” for the “fictitious RM20 billion Penang undersea tunnel scandal”.
The infrastructure project came under renewed scrutiny by the BN following a fresh probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in January.
The 7.2km undersea tunnel will connect George Town’s Pangkor Road and Bagan Ajam in Butterworth. It is scheduled to begin in 2023.
The “three main roads” stretch from Air Itam to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (5.7km), Tanjung Bungah to Teluk Bahang (10.53km), and Jalan Pangkor-Gurney Drive junction to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (4.1km).
