Zahid’s Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat remained intact while Hishammuddin’s Sembrong parliamentary seat saw an internal shuffle of an electoral district within state seats.
The Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat, close to Teluk Intan, Perak, now has 39,459 registered voters, a reduction of 465.
The Sembrong seat, part of Kluang, Johor, saw a small bump in voter numbers with 41,629 in the coming polls compared to 41,588 in the last election.
Both are Malay-majority seats, with Malays comprising 50% of the population.
As for objections to the redelineation, Bagan Datuk will retain its earlier electoral districts.
For the Sembrong seat, the only change involves the moving of an electoral district from the Kahang state seat to the adjacent Paloh state seat.
Meanwhile, the Felda Kahang Barat electoral district from Kahang with 2,454 voters has been shifted to the Paloh state seat.
Kahang is a Malay-majority seat while Paloh is Chinese-majority.
Kahang is held by MIC’s R Vidyanathan, who is also a Johor exco member. Paloh is held by MCA’s Teoh Yap Kun.
Teoh won the seat with a majority of 103 votes, beating R Shanker of DAP in the last polls.
Zahid won the Bagan Datuk seat with a 2,108 majority in the last polls, beating PKR’s Madhi Hasan with 17,176 votes. Zahid has retained the seat for five terms since 1999.
Hishammuddin meanwhile has retained the Sembrong seat for the past three terms since its creation in 2004. In the last polls, he won the seat with a 10,631-vote majority, beating PKR’s Onn Abu Bakar.
