EC’s redelineation report given to MPs leaked despite embargo

A website says the report shows the inclusion of police voters within the Lembah Pantai constituency.

PETALING JAYA: A website called The Other has published what it claims is the Election Commission’s (EC) redelineation report, on the same day Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia warned MPs that its contents should not be made public until its tabling next week.

The site posted a link to soft copies of all three volumes of the report, which is embargoed until March 28.

The Other said the report shows new state seats being added in Selangor, while the parliamentary seat of Lembah Pantai would see the inclusion of the Tasek Perdana voting district., meaning that police officers staying in Bukit Aman will now vote in the constituency.

“A quick scan shows new state seats being added for the state of Selangor while Lembah Pantai, whose parliamentarian is Nurul Izzah, will see inclusion of DM Tasek Perdana, despite protests, meaning Bukit Aman police officers will be voting in the constituency,” says an introduction on the site.

After initially barring MPs from bringing back copies of the report which were placed on their desks, Pandikar later allowed them on condition that they abide by the embargo.

FMT is trying to get Pandikar’s reaction.

The Dewan Rakyat is expected to pass the redelineation of electoral boundaries next week before Parliament is dissolved for the 14th general election.

EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah had said that if passed by the Dewan Rakyat, the redelineation motion would be presented to the king for his royal consent.

Critics of Barisan Nasional (BN) have said the exercise will favour the coalition.

DAP last week warned Pandikar not to table the redelineation report as the Penang government had filed an appeal against the electoral boundary change exercise in the Federal Court.

The EC submitted its report to Prime Minister Najib Razak on March 9 without completing hearings on objections to the changes in local inquiries.
